Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge State Park Heritage Area Tours
A Group Tour of the Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge is one of the best ways we
have to share this great historic landmark within the Oregon State Park. We can help you plan a special tour of the Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge for your club, group, or class.......Just give us a call or send us an email! However, you can bring your club or group and tour the Dredge without our help as our informative interpretive displays and sound pedestals are designed so you may tour the dredge at your leisure without waiting for a guided tour. To facilitate self-guided tours, the dredge is equipped with story board pedistals complete with voice interpretation to assist those who tour the Gold Dredge unassisted. Also, inside our interpretive store we have a nice museum that will help visitors gain an understanding of how the Gold Dredges were built and operated before boarding and taking your tour. For those visitors who enjoy guided tours, our State Park Staff and Volunteer Park Hosts provide a guided tour of the dredge each day throughout the season! Our Staff and volunteers are well trained and well-versed in the history of the Sumpter Gold Dredge and State Park and will provide an extra special and memorable experience to all our visitors! School Tours.......We love to host tours for our local schools at the Dredge!
We work together with the Sumpter Valley Railway to give students a wonderful and unique experience while providing them with plenty of interesting learning combined with lots of fun! The entire package includes an informative ride on the Narrow Gauge Steam Train from McKewan Station to the Sumpter Dredge where they disembark to begin their adventure in history! Students bring a sack lunch and after a break, the Oregon State Park Rangers and local Volunteers will lead them through our State Park up to the Sumpter Depot where they can learn more about the history of the Historic Sumpter Valley Railway. After touring the Dredge, students will be given a short class on pan mining and be given the opportunity to actually pan for gold and they get to take what they find home for a small fee! Group Events
We can host your Group Event or Meeting at the Sumpter Dredge or............. somewhere within our State Park Heritage Area! Your group could stay in Historic Sumpter Oregon for the event and enjoy all Sumpter has to offer in addition to their meeting! Just call us {541} 894-2472 or send us an email:
