Sumpter Valley Dredge Superintendent House
The Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge Superintendant's House is located on Mill St. in Sumpter, Oregon, next to the Sumpter Municipal Museum. This beautiful home was built in 1915 and after being owned by various residents in Sumpter, The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has recently acquired the home which is now on the National Registry of Historic Places. There are plans of restoration and preserevation. Unfortunately, most of the historic home was modernized and will require extensive work to restore it to original condition. To aid in the restoration process, the OPRD is asking local residents, for any information, photos, etc. that will provide a more historically-correct picture of what the house looked like. Visitors to the State Park have been fortunate enough to take a tour of the Superintendant's House as a bonus to visiting the Dredge. Park staff have been working hard to find period-correct furniture, as well as performing some restorative work on the house. This restoration project has gotten a slow start due to lack of funds, but our park staff and volunteers are still confident and quite excited! Restoration work is still in its infancy, so visitation is limited for now. Just a short walk through the park from the Dredge will take you to the Superintendant's House, which is open on weekends and during each of the Sumpter Flea Markets. If your group would like to make special arrangements to visit the Superintendant's House, please contact Ranger Miranda Miller at: {541} 894-2486 or email: miranda.krane@state.or.us
