The Sumpter Valley Dredge Workers Reunion July 24th, 2010![]() Each year, men who once worked on the Sumpter Valley Dredge, join family, friends, and local residents for a barbeque to celebrate the days when the dredge was working in the Sumpter Valley. Many workers have passed on, so they are represented by members of their family. It's great to tour the historic dredge, but to shake hands with men who actually worked on the dredge is truly living history! Everyone is invited. Reunions are held each July. Dredge Workers usually have plenty of interesting stories to share! For instance.....imagine working an 8 hour shift on the Dredge - day or night winter or summer and being wet from thousands of gallons of water flowing through the machinery. Imagine working a night shift in the frigid cold of winter when Sumpter temperatures often dip to below zero. All for about $.75 an hour at best! If you missed the reunion, you can watch an informative video in our interpretive store in which a few of the actual dredge workers are featured explaining their responsibilities and duties aboard the Dredge. Visitors may also view photos of past reunions in the Interpretive Store.
