Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge
State Heritage Area Sumpter, Oregon PARK PROJECTS
The Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area in Sumpter Oregon surrounds the
Sumpter Gold Dredge with 77 acres of natural wildlife habitat, trails and streams where there was once only dredge tailings! The Sumpter Gold Dredge is one of the most popular and important tourist attraction in Baker County and attracts thousands of visitors each year. To maintain the State Park to standards that our visitors enjoy, and Oregon State requires, means daily maintenance............ Oregon Parks and Recreations Rangers work diligently to maintain the park but major restoration projects such as the State Park Trails, Interpretive Displays, and the Day Use Park were built by and depend on various work crews and many volunteers to perform needed repairs and maintenance on a regular basis. |
We greatly appreciate the volunteer groups that come into the park to perform
maintenance and assist with new park projects! A special thanks goes to the NYCC and the OYCC for the awesome help they have provided us each Summer! Sumpter is particularly proud of our State Park entrance sign completed in the Summer of 2005! Planning future projects greatly depends on these groups! Another group we greatly depend on for help with our building projects and maintenance in the State Park is the Powder River Correctional Facility Inmates in Baker City. These inmates have worked hard to create beautiful park trails, signs, and bridge work! We invite you to come visit our State Park Heritage Area and see all the beautiful work these groups perform for us! If you, your group or organization would like to volunteer at the Sumpter Gold Dredge and State Park, just send us an email: info@friendsofthedredge.com |
