Welcome to The Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge Visitors Center!

First stop for visitors should be our
Museum and Interpretive Store!
Whether you have visited us before or this
will be your first time visiting the Historic
Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge, our museum
holds a wealth of historical information
that will give you a good sense of what life
was like working on the Gold Dredge.
Visitors will be delighted with the historical
photos and newspaper articles available
in the museum which provide a good
understanding of how the Dredge was built
and how it operated. In addition, there is always a well informed volunteer
available to answer any questions you might have concerning the Dredge and
State Park Heritage Area. We also have a video that is popular with our visitors
that features actual Dredge Workers and is always available for viewing.
Another popular exhibit in the museum is the model of the Dredge with several
accompanying newspaper articles written on the Dredge over the years.
In addition to photo albums full of historic area photos, you will find interesting
photos posted on the walls of the musum. There are also several photos of
people who supported daily operations of the Dredge in various jobs in and
around the Sumpter area. Also posted on the wall you will find aerial photos
of the Dredge Tailings which show the impact the Dredge had on the area.
Visiting our museum prior to boarding the Gold Dredge will allow you to
become more familiar with some of the history............making your visit
out on the Dredge more informative! We recommend that our visitors allow at
least thirty minutes in the Museum before heading over to board the Dredge.
Before entering the Dredge you will find story boards and sound pedestals
which will add to the information you learned in the Museum.

While in the museum, be sure to ask our staff to tell you about Joe Bush!

Visitors can find plenty of interesting books to purchase from geology
to fiction.......from cookbooks to the Oregon Trail and more!

We have plenty of souvenirs and treasures for you to take home........
From maps to gold and rocks to gold pans and much more!

We'll even let you borrow a gold pan for free if the fever strikes you or........
let a park host or ranger show you how to pan for gold!
