BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MEETING MINUTES
The Board Meeting minutes are provided here as a convenience for members of Friends of The Dredge, Inc. who may not live in our area and cannot attend our meetings. If you have any questions regarding these minutes please contact our Secretary here
July 14, 2005
Present: Toni Thompson, Mark Luker, Larry Wilson and Leland Myers.
Absent: Deloris Palmer, Marlene Bork and Catherine Dodgens Others present: Nancy Myers, store manager; Dennis Bradley, Park Manager and Norm Swanson,
Park Host. Vice-president Toni convened the meeting at 7: 10 PM. Nancy reported that Deloris was continuing to recover from her stroke, though more slowly now. She'd been working in her shop again and was extra tired tonight though she really wanted. to come to the meeting.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the June 9th meeting were approved.
Correspondence: Received were a letter of request from Dennis Bradley for $2,500 funding for OYCC work, property insurance policy from Clarke & Clarke; notice from NPC regarding Data Security: bulletins for various seminars; Ruralite; and miscellaneous catalogs and offers.
Financial Report: Treasurer Leland presented financial reports for the fiscal year 2004-2005 and for the period since the June meeting. Leland moved and Mark seconded paying OPRD the $2,500 for the OYCC work. Motion carried. Dennis brought us a copy of the report by Fred Walters following his evaluation of the dredge roof and its repair and the bill for his services (approved by Nancy Niedemhofer) in the amount of $5,000. Larry moved the early withdrawal of the $5,000 CD for paying Walters, Leland seconded and the motion carried.
Unfinished Business: Nancy reported that the store had been reasonably busy in June with a gross sales of $3,644.44. The new Oregon state-shaped key tags and the reorder of JR Beavers had been received. No one had a design to suggest yet for vests and sweatshirts. Nancy pointed out that the albums of historic photos on display in the museum room are showing wear and asked if the Friends wanted to fund repairing them. The consensus was yes and Nancy was instructed to check with Dick Browne. Nancy said she had been doing year-end inventory but was not yet finished and also that she had attended the workshop "It Pays To Please" that Karen held for staff and OYCC crew members. With the hotter weather approaching Nancy had purchased a clip-on fan and extension cord to help boost the cooled air from the air conditioner into the museum room which has gotten pretty stifling during previous summers. She asked for approval
of the expense. Toni moved, Mark seconded and the motion carried. Larry shared a beginning of a storyboard for the updated video and asked for input from anyone. As the new 12 copies of the 1999 video were now down to two, the Board approved ordering more videos which will take ordering cover stock directly from Hudson Printing. Leland had the four sets of copies of the dredge construction plans made recently at Baker City Copy, Ship and Mail. The cost was $1,207. Mark said he was still adding to the pages of our Web site and that it should be up later this week.
The Reunion of dredge workers and Sumpter Valley residents, past and present had a light attendance but was a good event. The weather was great, the Lions cooked burgers and hot dogs, music by Salt Lick #39 was much enjoyed, the dredge workers were given CD postcards as this year's memento and the picture on the cake was provided by Norm Swanson. The date for the event next year was set for June 24m. .
Dennis reported that nearly 300 visitors had been to the Dredge Superintendent's House on Saturday and Sunday of the 4th of July weekend. Lynn did sell a few books during that time. The new highway signs for here in town had been put up and mounting the big entrance sign was mostly done. There is a hang up yet on the stream improvement but it was being worked out. OPRD has a contractor for the project and supplies on site. The transfer of the BLM property to the park is in process.
New Business: Nancy showed a product called Rox in Box offered by Bill Todd of Baker City which, contains an assortment of well polished rocks from around the state. At the cost of $15 the Board was dubious of its success. Also Nancy requested replacing our well wore phone. Toni moved and Mark seconded getting a good cordless phone. The motion carried. Other Comments: Nancy reported on visitors who had stopped at the Fremont Powerhouse and were dismayed at the rude reception they'd received.
Next Meeting Date & Time: Aug 11th at 7 p.m. at the store.
Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
