Ice in The Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park
This winter, we had a different visitor to the State Park: ICE. Frazil Ice to be exact. Winter came early to Sumpter this year, but a serious thaw in February caused a large ice flow in the Powder River which runs through the park. The ice became the consistency of lava or wet concrete, which blocked the natural flow of the river and redirected it through the day use area. Read more about it in the Spring Newsletter
We would like to thank Park Ranger Miranda Krane for taking these photos and publishing the Spring Newsletter! |
