Gold Dredges in the Sumpter Valley.....

The Sumnpter Valley Dredge is the last of three gold dredges that worked in the Sumpter Valley from 1914 to 1954. So, what happened to the first two gold dredges? Parts from the second dredge were used to build the third dredge. Remains of the first two gold dredges are still easy to see. Remains of the first dredge can be seen at the SVRY Train Depot, just a few miles South of Sumpter at McEwen, and the second dredge can be seen along the side of Bourne Road, just North of Sumpter.
